ESF Conference in Vadstena (Sweden)

This week we've been in Vadstena (Sweden), a really peaceful & nice town with wood houses, a great lake, quite cold and absolutely dark since 3PM... (Aggggghhhhh). Anyway the ESF Conference was really interesting. Jordi Barrat & me took part at the e-voting session, chaired by our colleague Alex Trechsel together with Robert Krimmer. Apart of us, Letizia also came to Vadstena and our brazilian friend José Rodrigues Filho.

E-voting, the last electoral revolution

Last weekend we organized an International Workshop in Barcelona: "E-voting, the last electoral revolution", at the ICPS. During friday and saturday, a limited number of scholars from our research team (Jordi Barrat, José Julio Fernádez, Mª Teresa Franquet & Josep Mª Reniu), and some european colleagues (Robert Krimmer, Joao Falcao, Ulle Madise, Jason Kitcat & Letizia Caporusso), have very interesting discussions.

As usual, we had good moments at lunch time (see Joao Falcao taking me a photo at the same time I was). After that workshop, papers discussed will be prepared to be published by the ICPS around march 2008. For the moment, here you can find some of the presentations made by the participants:

R+D Project

Good news! The Spanish Research Ministry awards our group with one R+D Project on electronic voting with 35000 euros for three years (2007/2009) and a four-years fellowship to do a Ph.D. on the same field. V Votobit (Monterrey - México; Sept. 2007)

The Vth Votobit (International Meeting on e-Voting) will be held next 26, 27 & 28 of september in Monterrey (México). The organizers, OVE (Electronic Voting Observatory, Spain), IEPCC (Electoral and Citizen Participation Institute of Coahuila, Mexico) & CEENL (State Electoral Comission of Nuevo León, Mexico) would like to invite you to join us there.

There will be different keynote speakers, from technicians to political scientists and constitutional lawyers, and vendors from Europe and America will also make demonstrations of their e-voting solutions.

Novedades editoriales

Acaba de aparecer el primer libro que, desde una óptica multidisciplinar, aborda la cuestión sobre el voto electrónico en Catalunya. En él han participado expertos en derecho constitucional (Jordi Barrat y Marc Carrillo), tecnólogos (el finado amigo Andreu Riera), sociólogos (Oriol Molas) y politólogos (Marta Cantijoch y Josep Mª Reniu). El resultado es, por lo tanto, una muy interesante aproximación crítica y realista sobre los retos e incertidumbres que supone la adopción de estas soluciones tecnológicas para la emisión del voto.

Entre otras aportaciones destacan los análisis jurídicos de Jordi Barrat, la panorámica del voto electrónico en Catalunya desde 1995 por parte de Josep Mª Reniu y Jordi Barrat, así como el informe sobre la e-votación vinculante en el CETIB, por Jordi Barrat, Marta Cantijoch y Josep Mª Reniu.

Curs d'estiu a la UB - Democràcia electrònica i participació ciutadana

La Universitat de Barcelona, amb el suport de la Diputació, torna a organitzar enguany (16/20 juliol) un curs d'estiu dedicat a la democràcia electrònica i a la participació ciutadana.
